The Sultanate of Oman represented by the Capital Market Authority chairs the Association of Arab Securities Commissions for the current sessions which started by the 5th Meeting of the Association which was hosted by the Sultanate on Monday 10th January 2001 in the attendance of the Heads of the regulatory and supervisory authorities of Arab Securities Markets. CMA will chair the Association until early next year. The 5th Meeting of the Association discussed a number of administrative topics such as appointment of whole time Secretary General and approval of the Associations’ plan of Arab Securities Markets for 2011. The meeting also discussed the draft bylaws of the Executive Committee of the Association as well as discussion of work mechanism to achieve the objects such as high levels of coordination to preserve the efficiency and soundness of transaction at Arab securities markets and exchange of information, technical assistance and expertise to support development of Arab markets, setting up organizational rules and to unify the efforts to reach efficient levels of regulation on the transactions of Arab markets, cooperation and coordination among the members as regards the relevant laws and regulations to achieve the highest level of coherence to overcome the challenges facing Arab investments to expand its base, diversify its tools and to upgrade the performance of Arab securities sector, encourage cross listing and trading in Arab markets.
